
Little hummingbird posed for me on the wash line at the little desert casita.

Normally hummers exist in my life as a blurred buzz, but this little 3 inch lady seemed to want to make eye contact, waiting patiently while I fetched the camera, then turning this way then that.

I think she might be the female black chinned hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri ) but stand open to correction.

Curiously I just happened to be listening to Luis Alberto Urrea reading The Hummingbird’s Daughter . The story of a girl coming to terms with her destiny. Then this little Chuparrosa shows up to look me in the eye.
